Reading Comprehension

In this class, students will learn and practice a variety of comprehension strategies to apply to various genres of reading materials:  fiction, non-fiction, and school texts, including assessment directions and questions in all subject areas.  Common literary elements found in fiction will also be taught and applied to the students’ lives to aid comprehension. This class is meant to be stress-free so they can absorb the material and discover which strategies work best for them.  All materials for this class will be provided. Students only need to bring a snack.

Cancelation/Refund Policy:  Brother Rice Camps will refund the registration cost minus a 20% service fee up to 15 days prior to the start date of the camp when the participant cancels.  No refund will be issued if camp participant cancels within two weeks (14 days) prior to the camp start date or does not show up for camp.  If Brother Rice were to cancel the camp a full refund would be issued.

The Writing Process

In this class, students will learn and practice a variety of writing skills necessary for academic success – all in a stress-free, relaxed atmosphere.  These skills include, but are not limited to, complete sentences, short answer responses, essay test responses, emails, and the standard 5 - paragraph essay. Appropriate punctuation and basic grammar skills will also be taught. All materials for this class will be provided. Students only need to bring a snack.
